Celebrate Dad in Somerset West this weekend

Let’s face it, finding the perfect gift for the men in your life can be a whole lot harder than picking up that special something for your mom, sister or girlfriend.

However, with an array of exciting lifestyle shops and restaurants breathing new life into the Somerset West CBD, you need not settle for yet another 5-pack of beige and brown socks.

Here are some local and lekker ideas for spoiling Dad this weekend (or whenever, really!)

GIFT IDEAS

Stock up on his favourite snacks

Who doesn’t love having a sneaky stash of personal snacks? Make Dad’s day by stocking up on a bunch of goodies you know he’ll love. The KwikSpar at Lion’s Square is a hidden gem when it comes to bagging some top-class delicacies for every taste. Whether he’s a biltong, cheese and crackers kind of guy or prefers to indulge his sweet tooth, you are bound to find something to make his heart (and tummy) skip a beat.

Treat him to a tipple

Once you’ve made the snack selection of Dad’s dreams, be sure to pop into TOPS to get a perfect pairing partner - how about a couple of craft beers or a bottle of that whisky he’ll never buy himself

If he’s more of a wine guy, head on over to Wyn to shop for something hard-to-find and unusual in their Reserve Wine section.

Bicycle gear

What better way to show Dad you love him than supporting his healthy habits? If he is into cycling or mountain biking, surprise him with a sought-after gadget or a full bike service from Banhoek Bikes.

Eat out

Breakfast at Bootlegger

We have yet to meet a Dad who doesn’t like a hearty breakfast. So, you pretty much can’t go wrong with Bootlegger’s All Day Breakfast menu and famously excellent coffee! Head to Bootlegger on the corner of Drama and Caledon Street and enjoy an unparalleled view of the bustle of our beautiful village. Just take note that they close at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, so just plan your day accordingly!

Coffee and Cake at Ground Central Coffee

If you have a true coffee aficionado on your hands with a penchant for home-baked goods, a trip to Ground Central Coffee on Caledon Street will certainly hit the spot! Owner, Andries van Wyk is passionate about coffee and happy to share his vast knowledge. As for the food - every item on the menu is fresh, delicious and more-ish.

Lunch at The Farmhouse

Looking for the perfect spot to host a laid-back lunch with extended family or a group of friends? Book your spot at The Farmhouse now! Not only is their fare truly mouthwatering, but their eclectic menu will also cater to a wide variety of tastes. PLUS, they are offering Dads a free beer with their meal on Father’s Day.

Pre-Father’s Day Dinner at Sanook

Perhaps you’d like to avoid the Father’s Day crowds and spend some quality time with Dad in a quieter setting while enjoying a memorable meal. Book a table at Sanook for dinner during the week or on Saturday evening. This family-owned and -managed restaurant is famous for its gourmet burgers, thin-crusted pizzas and juicy grilled steaks.

Eat in

Pizza night

Speaking of which, there is nothing wrong with having a good old fashioned pizza and games night in with the family! Order in a selection of Deluxe and Classic pizzas from Pizza Perfect in the Twin Oaks Centre

Nou gaan ons Braai

There are, however, few things as synonymous with South African fatherhood as being the ultimate braai-master in the eyes of their children (no matter how young or old). Even though it should be his day off, coax Dad into showing off his braai skills by presenting him with an array of specially selected cuts from Douvoordag Slagtery in the Trading Post centre. If you’re planning your braai for Sunday, just be sure to get there before they close for the weekend at 1pm on Saturday afternoon!

Dads need pampering too

Full house haircut

Spoil your dad with the Full House treatment from Four Gents Barbershop in the Trading Post. Including a haircut, a hot towel shave, waxing and a scalp massage, the treatment will have him walking away feeling like a new man.
