Xoli Madlala

Menopause Coach | Menopause Advocate I Menopause Policy Advisor I Speaker I Author (The Perimenopausal Globetrotter)

The moment Xoli discovered the name of what she had been struggling with for years in her early 30s, she vowed that none of it should have been in vain. Upon introspection, she concluded that she went through premature menopause so that she could raise awareness, demystify taboos and combat the shame and stigma through her lived experience. What she shares proves to be very different from textbook knowledge, or hearsay. Armed with her own journey, she sets forth unmasking premature menopause, menopause overall, and shares thoughts on mental health, navigating romantic relationships and the nuances of showing up at work. She lets you in on co-existing with this "elephant" that is often only explored in private spaces within the African context. Xoli lets you in on conversations with friends and colleagues, ones she has with random strangers, all the way to some of her interactions on social media platforms.

In 2017 she started journaling her experience which she initially titled, Behind the Smile, an exercise she put to rest for years. In March 2022, a voice so strong told her that it was time to finish what she had started. Thus began a full-time, labour of love which became the manuscript of The Perimenopausal Globetrotter. Postmenopausal and having come full circle, she felt prepared to share her journey with the whole world through this offering. Her book is filled with authentic moments that some might deem as too much information, but what makes her story so relatable is that she is not concerned about 'window- dressing' her experiences.

Author of The Perimenopausal Globetrotter, public speaker and a menopause policy advisor, with vast knowledge, experience and certified training, Xoli works with corporates, groups, churches, individuals and couples. Her goal is to change the menopause narrative in South Africa and in Africa and transform spaces to be menopause-inclusive. She has recently been appointed as a partner and ambassador for Daliah, an organization that focuses on South African women menopause research. Sunday World named her a Heroic Women in Health 2024. The Feature Magazine recognized her as one of 50Memorable Women in 2024.

Her message has been spread through various media platforms. From radio to TV. From Podcasts to magazines and newspapers. She ensures that these conversations are not for the educated and literate only, She does this by delivering the information in vernac languages as per need to ensure that nobody is excluded. She has equally been hosted by institutions of higher education to mention a few, University of Johannesburg, University of Free State and Unisa Radio.

If she was a billboard I would read: 'Understanding yourself is power. Loving yourself is freedom. Forgiving yourself is peace. Being yourself is bliss.'

"Xoli has been an invaluable resource in educating and coaching our guests on health-related issues, with a particular focus on menopause. Her ability to communicate complex health topics ni an accessible and empathetic manner has empowered our guests to take control of their wellbeing during this important stage of life."

Puseletso Modimogale, Founder and Managing Director, Mind Retirement Institute
